What is in our food?

This is a journey I have been on since I accidentally found out certain ingredients are banned outside the U.S. I’m not obsessed, but I am more careful about the food I choose to eat. The hardest part is snacks. Pre-packaged snacks are so convenient, and making your own is a lot of work. All I can say is once you set off down this path, you can definitely taste the difference. There is a victory also in knowing the ingredients are better for you. I am pushing myself to provide better food for my family and have started back into fermentation. I also have added sour dough bread into my bread routine. I have been eating homemade bread for so long that it has changed my taste buds a bit. I recently ate some store bought bread (a hotdog bun) and I thought it had gone bad. My husbandRead More

Glory

Psalm 19 1The heavens declare the glory of God;And the firmament shows His handiwork.2 Day unto day utters speech,And night unto night reveals knowledge.3 There is no speech nor languageWhere their voice is not heard.4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.6 Its rising is from one end of heaven,And its circuit to the other end;And there is nothing hidden from its heat. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.10 More to be desired are they than gold,Yea, than much fine gold;Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,And in keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors?Cleanse me from secret faults.13 Keep back Your servantRead More

You want the truth?

During a Sunday school lesson on Psalm 119, our class discussed the world and our place in it.  We are to meditate and immerses ourselves in God’s word. But, we are not meant to lock ourselves up and separate ourselves from the world by not having contact with it.  We are in the world, but not of it.  This wisdom, given to us by the Grace of God gives us understanding that our heathen family, friends and co-workers don’t have.  They have one absolute to live by and that is that, there are no absolutes.  They are lost in a world of chaos, trying to make sense of it.  That is why someone can be outraged or sad over the loss of a puppy in the womb, but cannot make the connection to the human infant, murdered in the womb.  That the life created by God in His image wouldRead More

What?

We are getting to a point, where hearing is beginning to fail. It can be funny at times to interpret what we thought we heard. I thought I’d share one that was particularly funny at least to me. Here’s what was said: Sonny from the kitchen, “do you want some grapes?”. Me from the den: “no, I have cantaloupe here”. Here’s what he heard: “Do you want grapes?, No, I have camel hair”. I knew from the look on his face he was lost, during my giggles he said he liked my hair and that it was soft. Nothing like camel hair at all. Well, that’s a relief!

Disappointment

If you look at this photo and think that we are mad at each other, you are very wrong. This is the look you get when you have overcome the overwhelming obstacles in your path, victory in sight, only to have the final death blow delivered. This is the face of surrender. It is also the look of the complete peace with whatever the sovereign God puts in front of us. I snapped these couple photos while we were sitting on the side of the interstate, trucks and cars buzzing by rocking the bus. We sat there 3 or 3 1/2 hours. The trip was only a 4 1/2 hour trip, and we were about one hour into it, so at least we didn’t get too far. We had planned this trip for a year and so many obstacles came up prior to us leaving, we weren’t sure we wouldRead More

Old photos

I have a cardboard box that has old photos and albums in it. I used to keep them in an airtight container, which ended up under the rubble and debris from hurricane Michael. What we were able to recover ended up in a cardboard box and they aren’t in the greatest condition. I decided to start dusting and wiping the bugs off so I can scan them. Try to preserve them best I can. It is fun to see some of these old photos; however, there are some, that if I never saw them again, it would be too soon. (I’m not scanning those.) It is somewhat sobering from a Christian perspective to look at your younger self. I can see God’s providential hand through out my life, only back then, I didn’t know Him. I feel small, but not insignificant and am grateful for having been chosen for salvation.Read More
